TTMBC – Temporary Traffic Management Basic Course

The course is meticulously crafted to ensure learners:

• Gain familiarity with the applicable codes of practice and other essential documentation relevant to traffic management.
• Understand the Sector Schemes and the Quality Assurance (QA) process alongside NHSS documents.
• Recognise the variety of roads within the UK network and the specific NHSS documents applicable to different road works.
• Become aware of the diverse classifications of road users, including pedestrians, horse riders, and cyclists.
• Acquire knowledge of the terminologies used in the Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) industry.
• Learn the pathways to becoming a qualified operative, the process of obtaining a skills registration card, and the progression towards Supervisor level.
• Understand health and safety requirements, including risk assessments and method statements.
• Get introduced to the TTM equipment and the fundamental principles of its usage.
• Understand the establishment of a safety zone and general Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
• Gain insights into the types of vehicles used in TTM and their operational contexts.
• Learn the proper procedures for safely entering and exiting sites, maintaining sites, and handling accidents and emergencies within the work area.

The NHSS 12 Temporary Traffic Management Basic Course covers:

• Codes of practice and key documentation in traffic management.
• Overview of Sector Schemes and the QA process.
• Classification and management of different road types within the UK.
• Introduction to the classifications of road users.
• Terminology specific to the TTM industry.
• Procedures for achieving operative qualification and skills registration.
• Health and Safety protocols, including risk assessments and method statements.
• Fundamentals of TTM equipment use.
• Safety zone establishment and PPE requirements.
• Types of TTM vehicles and their applications.
• Best practices for site entry/exit, maintenance, and emergency response.

Upon successful completion of the course, learners will undertake a multiple-choice question paper, requiring a 75% pass mark. Successful candidates will receive a Lantra Awards certification, valid for 6 months. This certification is a testament to the learner’s foundational knowledge in temporary traffic management, preparing them for further training and advancement within the industry.
