The NPORS Vehicle Marshal (N403) training is designed for individuals involved in the movement of vehicles. The course covers health and safety aspects and practical lessons on how to safely guide and marshal vehicles.

The key objectives of this course are as follows:

  • Provide participants with a basic understanding of the industry, relevant legislation, and the associated hazards of vehicle marshaling.
  • Equip learners with knowledge about the specific manufacturer’s handbook for the vehicle or machine they will be guiding.
  • Familiarize participants with various signs, signals, approved hand signals, and communication methods used in vehicle marshaling.
  • Ensure participants can identify and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for vehicle marshal duties.
  • Instruct participants on conducting safety checks at the work area, including the placement of stop blocks and marking tipping areas.
  • Teach the setup of exclusion zones for unloading and the safe guidance of machinery in both forward and reverse directions, even in confined spaces and “blind areas.”
  • Address environmental considerations related to vehicle marshaling.
  • Cover end-of-shift, shutdown, and parking procedures.

The NPORS Vehicle Marshal (N403) training includes the following content:

  • Introduction: Understanding the industry, relevant legislation, occupational hazards, and the responsibilities of a vehicle marshal.
  • Manufacturer’s Handbook: Knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook specific to the vehicle or machine to be guided.
  • Signs and Signals: Learning various signs, signals, approved hand signals, and communication methods for effective vehicle marshaling.
  • PPE: Identifying and maintaining the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for vehicle marshal duties.
  • Safety Checks: Conducting necessary safety checks at the work area, including the placement of stop blocks and creating exclusion zones for unloading.
  • Vehicle Guidance: Safely guiding machinery in forward and reverse directions, including in confined spaces and areas with limited visibility (blind areas).
  • Environmental Considerations: Addressing environmental factors relevant to vehicle marshaling.
  • End-of-Shift Procedures: Carrying out end-of-shift, shutdown, and parking procedures.

Upon successfully completing the NPORS Vehicle Marshal (N403) training, participants will receive certification. The validity of this certification may vary based on factors such as prior experience and qualifications. It is important to note that candidates need to provide proof of passing the CITB health, safety & environmental touch screen test within two years before applying for this training. Additionally, a good understanding of spoken and written English is required for this course.
