Course Summary:

The NPORS Telescopic Handler Training is designed for individuals who operate telescopic handlers and need a formal qualification for their work. This course aims to provide participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to operate a telescopic handler safely and effectively. The training duration varies depending on the operator’s experience level, with options for both novices and experienced workers.

The primary objectives of this course are as follows:

  • Understand the industry and the associated risks and responsibilities of being a plant operator.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific telescopic handler to be used.
  • Identify and explain the major components of the machine and their functions.
  • Conduct all pre-operational checks in compliance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements.
  • Safely operate the telescopic handler over varying terrains, rough ground, inclines, and in open and confined areas.
  • Perform lifting and load handling tasks accurately and safely.
  • Safely load and unload external transport.
  • Understand the procedures for attaching, adjusting, and removing attachments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
  • Carry out end-of-shift and shutdown procedures.

The NPORS Telescopic Handler Training covers a range of essential topics, including:

  • Introduction: Understanding the industry and operator responsibilities.
  • Manufacturer’s Handbook: Knowledge of the machine’s manufacturer’s handbook and other relevant information sources.
  • Machine Components: Identification and explanation of major machine components and controls.
  • Pre-operational Checks: Conducting pre-operational checks as per manufacturer’s and legislative requirements.
  • Safe Operation: Safely mounting, dismounting, starting, stopping, configuring, and maneuvering the machine.
  • Safety Checks: Conducting necessary safety checks at the work area.
  • Lifting and Load Handling: Performing lifting and load handling tasks accurately and safely.
  • Attachment Handling: Fitting, adjusting, and removing attachments.
  • Loading and Unloading: Understanding loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
  • End-of-Shift: Carrying out end-of-shift and shutdown procedures.

Upon successful completion of this qualification, participants will receive an NPORS Telescopic Handler card, which is valid for five years. This card certifies their competence in operating a telescopic handler.

Entry Requirements: Operators are required to provide proof supporting their application, including passing the CITB health, safety & environmental touch screen test within two years prior to their application. Additionally, a good understanding of spoken and written English is necessary.
