NPORS Screener Training

The primary objectives of this course are as follows:

• Equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to operate screeners safely and effectively.
• Provide a comprehensive understanding of relevant controls, safety measures, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Address safe mounting/dismounting practices.
• Familiarize participants with pre-start and running checks, major machine components, features, benefits, and associated risks.
• Define the general responsibilities of screener operators, including reference to the manufacturer’s handbook.
• Teach operating procedures aligned with industry best practices and NPORS guidelines.
• Cover safe parking and shutdown procedures for screeners.

The NPORS N208 Screener Training course covers various essential topics, including:

• Introduction to the Item of Plant: Familiarizing participants with the specific screener equipment, its controls, and the required PPE.
• Pre-start and Running Checks: Explaining the process of conducting pre-start checks, identifying major machine components, and understanding their features, benefits, and associated risks.
• General Responsibilities of the Operator: Defining the operator’s roles and responsibilities, including reference to the manufacturer’s handbook.
• Operating Procedures: Teaching operating procedures in accordance with industry best practices and NPORS guidelines.
• Safe Parking and Shutdown Procedures: Providing guidelines for safely parking and shutting down screener equipment.

Additional Category Award: The course offers an additional category award known as N208 Screener Training.

Assessment Method: Participants will undergo assessment through a multiple-choice theory test consisting of 25 questions. Additionally, a practical test will evaluate their hands-on skills and application of the knowledge gained during the course.

Successful candidates will receive an NPORS card upon completion of the course. The type of card issued can vary depending on factors such as site requirements, prior experience/qualifications of participants, and whether their employer is CITB levy registered and wishes to claim a grant upon completion.

• NPORS Traditional Card (5 Years): This internationally recognized card is valid for between 3 and 5 years, typically expiring at the end of the month in which the NPORS assessment is completed.
• CSCS Embossed NPORS Card: This version of the card is widely accepted and requested across the UK by construction and construction allied industries. Trainees need to have passed the HS&E test within 2 years at the point of applying for an NPORS ticket to obtain this card.
  • NPORS CSCS Red Trained Operator Card (2 Years): Issued upon completion of training and/or the NPORS test, available to anyone with a valid HS&E Health Safety & Environment test.
  • NPORS CSCS Blue Competent Operator Card (5 Years): This card is available to operators who have undergone NPORS training/testing and hold a relevant NVQ qualification.

Pre-Course Information: Candidates are expected to have a good understanding of English. While the NPORS scheme permits the use of interpreters, Safeteam can arrange for an independent interpreter to be made available if needed.
