Course Summary:

The NPORS Rough Terrain Forklift Truck (N009) course is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to operate a rough terrain forklift truck safely and efficiently. The course duration can be tailored to suit the experience level of participants, with options ranging from one to five days. Experienced operators also have the option to attend a one-day Experienced Worker Assessment (Test Only).

The primary objectives of this course are as follows:

  • Industry Understanding: Develop a fundamental understanding of the industry, emphasizing awareness of potential hazards and responsibilities as a plant operator.

Course Content: The course covers the following key areas:

  • Machine Familiarization: Acquire a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook specific to the forklift truck to be used.
  • Component Identification: Identify and locate the major components of the machine and provide explanations of their functions.
  • Control Familiarity: Recognize, locate, and explain the functions of steering, driving, and braking controls.
  • Safety Checks: Conduct comprehensive pre-operational checks in compliance with both manufacturer and legislative requirements.
  • Safe Operation: Safely mount and dismount the forklift truck, master engine starting and stopping procedures, and safely move the machine on and off and stop it securely.
  • Terrain and Area Management: Configure the forklift truck for travel and maneuver it safely, both when laden and unladen, across varying terrains, rough ground, inclines, and in open and confined areas.
  • Work Area Safety: Perform all necessary safety checks within the work area, ensuring a secure working environment.
  • Lifting and Load Handling: Maneuver the machine to the work area and configure it correctly for lifting and load handling tasks, executing them accurately and safely at different locations.
  • Transportation Procedures: Safely load and unload external transport and fit, adjust, or remove attachments as required.
  • Transportation Knowledge: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
  • Shutdown Protocols: Carry out end-of-shift and shutdown procedures in accordance with established safety protocols.
