NPORS Road Planer Training (N216)

Course Summary:

The NPORS N216 Road Planer Training is designed to provide operators, regardless of their skill level, with comprehensive training in the safe and effective operation of road planers. This course combines both theoretical and practical instruction to ensure participants gain a strong foundation in best practices and safe operations.

The primary objectives of this training are as follows:

  • Equip participants, whether experienced or not, with the knowledge and skills required for safe road planer operation.
  • Deliver training in accordance with NPORS learning outcomes.
  • Provide participants with a balanced blend of theoretical and practical instruction to ensure they acquire a solid understanding of safe practices and operational proficiency.

The NPORS N216 Road Planer Training Course encompasses the following key areas:

  • Introduction to the road planer equipment, including an overview of relevant controls and necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This section also covers safe mounting and dismounting procedures.
  • Pre-start and running checks, including an explanation of the major components of the road planer, their features, benefits, and associated risks.
  • Clarification of the operator’s general responsibilities, with reference to the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific road planer being used.
  • Instruction on operating procedures in alignment with industry best practices and NPORS guidelines.
  • Guidance on safe parking and shutdown procedures.

Upon successful completion of the NPORS N216 Road Planer Training, participants will receive an NPORS certification valid for a duration of 2 to 5 years. This certification attests to their competence in operating road planers safely, understanding industry regulations, and fulfilling operator responsibilities.

NPORS Red to Blue: Participants seeking to upgrade from a Red Trained Operator to a Blue Competent Operator card should consider pursuing an NVQ. Safeteam offers NVQs nationwide, accommodating both site convenience and learner preferences. Further information can be obtained by visiting the provided link.

Available Cards on Completion: Successful candidates will be eligible to obtain an NPORS card upon course completion. The type of card awarded depends on various factors, including site requirements, attendees’ prior experience and qualifications, and employer CITB levy registration, which may be eligible for grant claims upon completion.

  • NPORS Traditional card (5 years): This internationally recognized card typically remains valid for 3 to 5 years, expiring at the end of the month in which the NPORS assessment was completed. However, it may be less accepted in construction compared to the CSCS embossed alternative.
  • CSCS Embossed NPORS card: This card, embossed with the CSCS logo similar to CPCS, has gained widespread acceptance in the UK’s construction and related industries in recent years. To obtain this card, trainees must pass the HS&E test within 2 years of applying for an NPORS ticket.

Pre-Course Information: Candidates are expected to have a good command of the English language. While the NPORS scheme permits the use of interpreters, Safeteam can make independent interpreters available if needed.
