Course Summary:

The NPORS N220 Paver Training is suitable for operators of all skill levels, whether experienced or not. The course is designed to align with NPORS learning outcomes and includes a combination of theoretical and practical training to provide participants with a solid understanding of best practices and safe operation when using a paver.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Gain familiarity with the specific paver equipment, including relevant controls and necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
  2. Perform pre-start and running checks on the paver and understand the major components of the machine, their features, benefits, and associated risks.
  3. Understand the general responsibilities of an operator, with reference to the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular paver being used.
  4. Follow operating procedures in accordance with industry best practices and NPORS guidelines.
  5. Execute safe parking and shutdown procedures for the paver.

Card Validity:

  • 2 – 5 Years (Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an NPORS card with a validity period of 2 to 5 years.)

NPORS Red to Blue:

  • For individuals seeking to upgrade from a Red Trained Operator to a Blue Competent Operator card, an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) is required. NVQs are offered nationally and can be conducted on-site for learner convenience.

The NPORS N220 Paver Training Course covers the following content:

  • Introduction to the specific paver equipment, including controls and required PPE, as well as safe mounting and dismounting procedures.
  • Pre-start and running checks, including an explanation of the major components of the machine, their features, benefits, and associated risks.
  • Understanding the general responsibilities of an operator, with reference to the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific paver.
  • Operating procedures in line with industry best practices and NPORS guidelines.
  • Safe parking and shutdown procedures.

NPORS Test:

  • Multiple-choice theory test (25 questions)
  • Practical Test

Cards Available on Completion: Successful candidates will receive an NPORS card upon course completion. The type of card issued may vary based on factors such as site requirements, prior experience, qualifications, and whether the employer is CITB levy registered and wishes to claim a grant upon completion. Available card types include:

  • NPORS Traditional card (5 years)
  • CSCS Embossed NPORS card, widely accepted in the UK construction industry. Available types include:
    • NPORS CSCS Red Trained Operator card (2 years)
    • NPORS CSCS Blue Competent Operator card (5 years), issued to operators with relevant NPORS training/testing and a relevant NVQ.

Pre-Course Information: Candidates should have a good understanding of English. While NPORS permits the use of interpreters, Safeteam can arrange for an independent interpreter if needed.

Claiming CITB Grant on NPORS: CITB levy registered businesses can claim CITB grant for NPORS courses, provided that the course durations meet specific parameters for CPCS experienced worker or CPCS novice training. The CITB grant amount is determined by the duration of training and covers both training and the CPCS technical test.

This training equips participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely operate paver equipment while adhering to industry standards and regulations.
