NPORS Overhead Crane

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Develop a basic understanding of the industry, recognizing potential dangers and understanding responsibilities as an operator.
2. Acquire a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific overhead crane to be used.
3. Locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
4. Locate and identify key controls and explain their functions.
5. Set up exclusion zones for safe crane operation.
6. Identify and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) suitable for overhead crane use.
7. Conduct comprehensive pre-operational and running checks following manufacturer’s and legislative requirements.
8. Prepare the overhead crane for safe use.
9. Operate the machine safely and efficiently.
10. Consider environmental factors during crane operation.
11. Perform all necessary end-of-work and shutdown procedures for the overhead crane.

The NPORS Overhead Crane (N104) course covers the following key areas:

• Basic industry understanding, including industry dangers and operator responsibilities.
• Knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific overhead crane.
• Identification and explanation of the major components and key controls of the overhead crane.
• Setting up exclusion zones for safe crane operation.
• Identifying and maintaining appropriate PPE for overhead crane use.
• Comprehensive pre-operational and running checks following manufacturer’s and legislative requirements.
• Preparation of the overhead crane for safe operation.
• Safe and efficient operation of the crane.
• Consideration of environmental factors during crane operation.
• Execution of end-of-work and shutdown procedures for the overhead crane.

Upon successful completion of the NPORS Overhead Crane (N104) course, participants will receive an NPORS certification. This certification typically has a validity period of 5 years, serving as evidence of the individual’s competence in safely operating an overhead crane.

Entry Requirements: Candidates must meet certain entry requirements for this course:

1. Proof of passing the CITB health, safety, and environmental touch screen test within two years prior to application.
2. A good understanding of spoken and written English.
