Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Develop a basic understanding of the industry, recognizing potential dangers and understanding responsibilities as a plant operator.
  2. Acquire a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific MEWP Scissor to be used, along with familiarity with other information sources and relevant legislation.
  3. Locate and identify steering, driving, and braking controls and explain their functions.
  4. Conduct comprehensive pre-operational checks in accordance with the manufacturer’s and legislative requirements.
  5. Verify all emergency lowering functions.
  6. Safely mount and dismount the machine.
  7. Configure the machine for safe travel.
  8. Safely maneuver the machine on level ground and inclines in open and confined areas.
  9. Conduct all necessary safety checks within the work area, including identifying overhead and underground hazards.
  10. Position the machine in readiness to perform accessing tasks.
  11. Execute accessing tasks at various points up to full operating height.
  12. Travel with the platform raised where applicable.
  13. Use the platform extension section (where applicable).
  14. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
  15. Perform all end-of-shift and shutdown procedures for the MEWP Scissor.

The NPORS MEWP Scissor (N109) course covers the following key areas:

Pre-Course Information: Candidates must provide proof of eligibility for the course, including passing the CITB health, safety, and environmental touch screen test within two years prior to applying.
