NPORS Industrial Counterbalanced Forklift Truck

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Develop a basic understanding of the industry and the inherent hazards associated with operating industrial counterbalanced forklift trucks.
2. Acquire a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook specific to the forklift machine to be used.
3. Locate and identify the major components of the forklift machine and explain their respective functions.
4. Locate and identify key controls related to steering, driving, and braking, providing explanations for their functions.
5. Conduct comprehensive pre-operational checks in adherence to manufacturer’s and legislative requirements.
6. Safely mount and dismount the forklift machine.
7. Start and stop the engine of the forklift and move the machine safely, ensuring secure stops.
8. Configure the forklift for travel and safely maneuver it, whether laden or unladen, in open and confined areas.
9. Execute all necessary safety checks within the work area.
10. Maneuver the forklift to the designated work area and properly configure it for lifting and load-handling tasks.
11. Lift and transfer loads accurately and safely at various locations.
12. Safely load and unload external transport vehicles.
13. Fit, adjust, and/or remove attachments as needed.
14. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
15. Perform all end-of-shift and shutdown procedures to ensure the forklift’s safety and readiness.

The NPORS Industrial Counterbalanced Forklift Truck (N001) course includes the following key components:

• Basic industry understanding, emphasizing industry dangers and operator responsibilities.
• Knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook specific to the forklift machine in use.
• Identification and explanation of major machine components and their functions.
• Identification and explanation of steering, driving, and braking controls and their functions.
• Pre-operational checks to meet manufacturer’s and legislative requirements.
• Safe mounting and dismounting of the forklift machine.
• Engine start and stop procedures and safe machine movement.
• Configuration and maneuvering of the forklift in various conditions and areas.
• Safety checks within the work area.
• Proper setup for lifting and load-handling tasks.
• Safe and accurate load lifting, transfer, and unloading.
• Attachment fitting, adjustment, and removal.
• Loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
• End-of-shift and shutdown procedures for the forklift.

Upon successful completion of the NPORS Industrial Counterbalanced Forklift Truck (N001) course, participants will receive an NPORS certification. This certification typically remains valid for 5 years and serves as proof of the individual’s competence in operating industrial counterbalanced forklift trucks safely and productively.

Pre-Course Information: Candidates are required to provide evidence of eligibility for the course, including passing the CITB health, safety, and environmental touch screen test within two years before applying for the course. Additionally, candidates should possess a good understanding of spoken and written English.

This training equips individuals with the necessary skills to safely operate industrial counterbalanced forklift trucks, promoting workplace safety and efficiency.
