The NPORS Crawler Crane (N103) course is designed to provide formal qualification for individuals operating crawler cranes. Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and explain the purpose of principal components, basic construction, controls, and terminology of a crawler crane.
  • Comply with manufacturer’s requirements as specified in the operator’s handbook and relevant regulations and legislation.
  • Perform all necessary pre-use checks on the crawler crane.
  • Configure and prepare the crane for travel.
  • Safely maneuver the crane, even in confined spaces.
  • Set up the crane for lifting operations.
  • Understand rigging and de-rigging procedures when fitting a lattice-type extension.
  • Take appropriate actions for hazards, underground, and overhead services.
  • Program and set up rated capacity indicators for lifting operations.
  • Safely lift various loads using the crane’s full radius and slewing capabilities.
  • Accurately place loads and minimize load swinging.
  • Change falls of rope on a hook block.
  • Move loads through machine travel and follow signals and instructions.
  • Maintain a safe working environment throughout crane operation.
  • Prepare the crane for movement from lifting duties.
  • Carry out shut-down and securing procedures.
  • Explain loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.

Entry Requirements Candidates must provide proof of eligibility for this course, including passing the CITB health, safety & environmental touch screen test within two years before applying. Additionally, a good understanding of spoken and written English is required.
