NPORS Asphalt Chipper Spreader

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

• Understand the industry and the associated hazards, including their responsibilities as plant operators.
• Gain a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific machine they will use.
• Identify and explain the major components of the machine and their functions.
• Locate and identify steering, driving, and braking controls and explain their functions.
• Identify and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for chipper spreader use.
• Conduct pre-operational and running checks in accordance with manufacturer and legislative requirements.
• Safely mount and dismount the machine.
• Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrains, including open and confined areas.
• Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area.
• Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and prepare it correctly for chipper spreader tasks.
• Efficiently carry out chipper spreader tasks.
• Receive materials from transporting vehicles.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading, unloading, and towing procedures for machine transportation.
• Consider environmental factors during operations.
• Execute end-of-shift and shutdown procedures in compliance with industry standards.

The NPORS Asphalt Chipper Spreader (N244) course covers the following key areas:

• Understanding the industry and operator responsibilities.
• Familiarity with the manufacturer’s handbook and adherence to legislation.
• Identification of machine components and control functions.
• Pre-operational checks, PPE requirements, and safety zone setup.
• Safe mounting and dismounting of the machine.
• Machine configuration, safe manoeuvring, and safety checks in various terrains.
• Work area safety and preparation for chipper spreader tasks.
• Efficient execution of chipper spreader tasks.
• Receiving materials from transporting vehicles.
• Knowledge of loading, unloading, and towing procedures for machine transportation.
• Environmental considerations during operations.
• End-of-shift and shutdown procedures in compliance with industry standards.

Awarding Body: NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) Certification: Upon successful completion of the course assessments, participants will receive an NPORS Operator Card. This certification validates their competence in operating chipper spreaders and maintaining safety standards in this role.
