NHSS 12D M7 Course for Managers & Client Officers

Course Summary:

The NHSS 12D M7 Course for Managers & Client Officers is specifically tailored for management-level individuals, client officers, technicians, and others who require an understanding of the basic practices of Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) on urban and rural roads, without being directly involved in the installation. This course is essential for Technical Officers as per the NHSS12D requirements and provides a comprehensive overview of the operational, legal, and safety aspects of TTM.

Upon completing the course, delegates will:

  • Acquire a working knowledge of National Highway Sector Schemes related to traffic management.
  • Gain awareness of health and safety issues pertinent to traffic management.
  • Be able to interpret the requirements of ‘The Safety at Street Works and Road Works, A Code of Practice (The Red Book)’ alongside guidance from ‘The Traffic Signs Manual, Chapter 8’.
  • Assess and determine the appropriate level and extent of Temporary Traffic Management needed for various scenarios.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the site risk assessment process.
  • Have the skills to assess and determine the necessary temporary traffic layout for specific work locations, activities, or operations.
  • Understand the acceptable standards of equipment usage in TTM.
  • Recognize the impact of changing site conditions and the need for appropriate remedial actions.
  • Liaise confidently with site staff to ensure TTM plans are suitable and adhere to safety standards prior to work commencement.
  • Be aware of the considerations for non-motorised road users and the specifics of convoy working.

The NHSS 12D M7 course includes:

  • Overview of operative and scheme requirements for TTM.
  • Reference documentation, definitions, and a quick guide on highway legislation affecting TTM operations.
  • Categories of road networks and operations, along with principle responsibilities in TTM.
  • Detailed examination of equipment usage, site requirements, limitations, and the process for carrying out on-site assessments.
  • Insights into other legislative requirements impacting TTM and site works monitoring.
  • Exploration of site and activity-specific requirements, including setting scenarios for TTM requirements.
  • Discussion on the standard of equipment that is acceptable to use and how to deal with changing conditions on-site.
  • Emphasis on the importance of considering non-motorised road users and the requirements for convoy working.

To maintain up-to-date knowledge and comply with changes in the Code of Practice, it is necessary for delegates to complete the revised (full) T7 training course. Although on-site assessments are not required for refresher training, successful completion of the course, including passing the 12D M7 end-of-course test, certifies that delegates have the required knowledge and skills to oversee TTM operations effectively. This certification ensures that managers and client officers are well-equipped to make informed decisions regarding TTM planning, implementation, and monitoring, prioritizing safety and compliance.
