CITB TWSTC – Temporary Works Supervisor Training Course

The TWSTC focuses on:

• Understanding the need for and duties of a TWS.
• Comprehending the roles of others in temporary works.
• Gaining detailed knowledge and understanding of BS 5975 in respect to the TWS role.
• Emphasizing the 4Cs: communication, coordination, cooperation, and competency.
• Addressing the essentials of risk management and safety in temporary works.

• Role and responsibilities of the Temporary Works Supervisor.
• Overview of BS 5975:2019 and its application to the TWS role.
• Key aspects of risk management in temporary works.
• Emphasis on the importance of communication, coordination, cooperation, and competency.
• Understanding other key roles involved in temporary works and their interaction.
• Detailed knowledge of typical documents used in temporary works and relevant legislation.

  • Validity: The certification is valid for 5 years.
  • Full attendance is mandatory to pass.
  • It’s essential that participants have a comprehensive understanding of BS 5975:2019.

  Entry Requirements

  • No formal entry requirements, but an assessment of suitability may be conducted by the training centre.
  • A working knowledge of various health and safety legislations is expected, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, CDM Regulations 2015, and others.
  • Learners should be prepared to discuss health and safety legislation relevance to temporary works.
  • Previous certifications like SSSTS or SMSTS, though not mandatory, are beneficial.
  • CITB offers a Temporary Works Awareness eLearning program as foundational preparation for the course.
  • Photographic ID is required for verification.
  • Proficiency in English is necessary as per CITB requirements.
