CITB TWCTC – Temporary Works Co-ordinator Training Course

The main goal of the TWCTC is to focus on the coordination process of temporary works, emphasizing the role of the TWC. The course is not primarily a technical awareness program but includes technical elements essential for temporary works. It aims to enhance understanding of risk management in temporary works, specifically focusing on procedural controls as outlined in BS 5975:2019. The course also seeks to build upon the risk management knowledge participants have likely acquired in other supervisory or management roles on site.

• Use and application of BS 5975:2019 in relation to the TWC role.
• Examination of typical documents used in temporary works and other legislation and guidance that interact with temporary works.
• Emphasis on the 4Cs: communication, coordination, cooperation, and competence.
• The need for effective risk management in temporary works.
• The course is supported by several industry organizations, including the Temporary Works Forum, UKCG, CECA, HSE, and FMB, enhancing its transferability within the industry.

• Course Duration: 2 Days
• Validity: The certification is valid for 5 years.
• Full attendance is mandatory for successful completion.
• Participants are expected to have a good grasp of relevant health and safety legislation and be prepared to engage in discussions about how these apply to temporary works.
• Photographic ID (e.g., Driving Licence/Passport) is required.
• English language proficiency is necessary as per CITB requirements.

Entry Requirements

• A working knowledge of various health and safety legislations and regulations is expected, including Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, CDM Regulations 2015, and others.
• Understanding of health and safety principles, risk management, design considerations, inspection, testing, recording, and monitoring in temporary works.
• While not mandatory, prior completion of courses like SSSTS or SMSTS is beneficial.
• CITB offers a Temporary Works awareness eLearning program to provide foundational knowledge for the course.
