The NPORS Abrasive Wheels Hand Held Petrol Driven Cut Off Saw (N017) training course is a one-day programme designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely operate hand-held cut-off saws fitted with abrasive wheels. This course also focuses on selecting, inspecting, and fitting the appropriate wheel for various tasks while ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

Upon completion of this course, participants will:

  • Familiarise themselves with the manufacturer’s handbook and relevant legislation.

  • Set up a safe work area and conduct necessary safety checks.

Awarding Body: NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) Certification: Successful participants will receive an NPORS (Traditional) Operator Card, which is valid for either 3 or 5 years, depending on sector-specific or in-company requirements. This card verifies the individual’s competence in operating hand-held petrol-driven cut-off saws fitted with abrasive wheels. It should be noted that for those operating in the construction sector, the NPORS / CSCS card route should be followed.

  • Assessment: Assessment includes NPORS theory assessment with open questions and multiple choice, as well as a practical assessment.
  • Entry Requirements: Participants must provide proof of passing the CITB health, safety & environmental touch screen test within two years before applying. Proficiency in spoken and written English is also required.
