12AB Operative Assessments

• Completion of 12AB Operative Logbook: Candidates are required to use a 12AB Operative Logbook, which records their performance in implementing temporary traffic management in their normal workplace.
• Units of Competence: There are 8 units of competence that candidates must successfully demonstrate, with each requiring assessments to be recorded on three separate occasions, with a minimum of two weeks between each observation.
• Assessment Frequency: Candidates are expected to be assessed on a minimum of five occasions by an assessor, as not all units of competence can be observed in each visit.

• Unit 1: Routine Checks on Plant and Equipment.
• Unit 2: Selection and Loading of TM Equipment.
• Unit 3: Access to and Conduct on Site.
• Unit 4: Placing of Signs and Cones.
• Unit 5: Temporary Lighting.
• Unit 6: Site Clearance.
• Unit 7: Maintenance.
• Unit 8: Miscellaneous Tasks.

• TM Registration Cards: Upon successful completion of the assessments, TM Registration Cards will be issued by LANTRA Awards, valid for 5 years.
• Renewal Process: Renewal of the registration card prior to expiry can be achieved by attending either the half-day 12AB Refresher Course or the full-day 12AB Operative Training course. Renewal after the card has expired requires attending the 1 Day 12AB Operative Training course.

The Sector Scheme 12AB Operative Assessments provide a comprehensive evaluation of a candidate’s ability to perform essential traffic management duties on live works, ensuring that they meet the high standards required by the industry. The process ensures that qualified operatives possess not only theoretical knowledge but also practical expertise in various aspects of traffic management.
